Top tanning tips from the Faux Glow Experts

Shaving time...

If you shave or wax your legs, try to do so a day before applying tan to allow skin to recover and pores to close.

Prep work

To prep your skin for the perfect tan, hit the shower with an exfoliating scrub and mitt. Do it thoroughly right after shaving day before applying your tan. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from the skin outermost layer to help ensure even coverage. Moisturise your skin right after exfoliation focusing on the elbows, knees and any dry areas on the body.

Shower 30 mins before application which will enable your skin to its natural pH balance and allow time for pores to close. Do not apply body lotion except sparingly to feet, back of the heel, elbows, cuticles and hands only. This will act as a barrier and prevent build up of tan in dryer areas Apply tan with a tanning mitt and buff the product into skin for even coverage - forget latex mitts as these will make product stick to hairs and look streaky. Map out the body in stages so you don’t miss bits. Slowly work from the top of the body down to your feet.

Good to know tips

If you are prone to breakouts when tanning the face rub an ice cube or cold damp cloth over the face before application to seal your pores and pat dry. Maintain even colour by applying an oil- free moisturiser daily – between applications.

Aftercare & Maintenance

Moisturise your tan daily with an oil free moisturiser to lock in hydration and help your tan to fade naturally. After bathing pat skin dry with your towel as vigorous drying will scrub off the tan.
